Maryland Pro Bono's Resource Center for Tenants Facing Eviction
Consumers who have received a debt collection lawsuit in Baltimore City or Prince George’s County or need general advice regarding a consumer debt can reach a Consumer Protection Project attorney.
Tenants who have received a Failure to Pay Rent or other eviction-related complaint in Baltimore City or Baltimore County or need general advice regarding a landlord/tenant matter can reach PBRC’s Tenant Assistance Hotline.
Maryland Court Help for Tenants With an Eviction Notice
Residents who have already received an eviction notice or have a court date can contact the centers, which provide free, limited, legal services for individuals who are not represented by an attorney in civil cases.
Economic Action's Free Resources and Legal Services for Landlords and Tenants
The Tenant Advocacy program provides Maryland renters with free information about tenant rights and responsibilities, including:
- Lease reviews
- Eviction Notification and Procedure, Illegal Eviction
- Prevention
- Nonpayment of Rent (Please note: We do not provide financial assistance.)
- Code Enforcement, including licenses and inspections
- Denial of Essential Services (heat, water, stove, etc.)
- Security Deposits
- Rent Escrow
- Lead paint
- Referrals to legal service providers, or other agencies or organizations that could be of assistance.
Maryland Legal Aid Bureau's Income Based Legal Aid
In order to be represented by Maryland Legal Aid, you must open a case with their organization. Representation by Maryland Legal Aid is offered at no cost for income-qualified persons.
